The Importance of Finding Balance

Balance in life is so important for both health and happiness and after the high octane, often exhausting festive season, now  is the perfect time to rest, reset and be kind to ourselves.

This January, we look at four things that can help you achieve balance in body and mind and have a little bit of fun while we are doing it.

USING BREATH TO CENTRE YOURSELF

Learning how to recognise the signs of stress, understanding how detrimental it can be and having simple tools to deal with it is enlightening and empowering.

Taking a moment to take a long slow deep breath can have wonderful well-being effects on both body and mind and with our Bertioli breathing ritual and balm we show you how to do just that.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF

In January, we often switch abruptly from the excesses of the party season to austerity and abstinence. In reality swinging from one extreme to the other does not achieve the balance we are searching for. At Thyme, we believe in being kind to ourselves. Rest and nurture together with a little bit of what you fancy is in fact very good for the soul.

Fresh herbs are always at the fore at Thyme and either a beautiful tisane with honey from our bees or, if you fancy, a martini made with a botanical hydrosol distilled by our wonderful bar team might be the perfect way to relax after your visit to our spa.

SPEND TIME OUTSIDE

A brisk walk on a chilly winter morning is good for us. Not only the exercise and immersion in nature, but for the sunlight. Sunlight is inextricably linked to our wellbeing, amongst the many benefits, it triggers the brain to release the hormone serotonin which boosts mood and instils feelings of calm promoting both happiness and better sleep.

REST UP

Lastly, but certainly not least we talk about the benefits of and how to set yourself up for a good nights sleep.

Sleeping helps to repair and restore our brains and bodies. Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly. Sleep has been proven to improve memory recall, regulate metabolism, and reduce mental fatigue.
