One Small Change ~ Dr Simon Chard

BERTIOLI | AT THYME

PÄRLA is transforming our daily routine through natural toothpaste tabs, introducing a kinder alternative for the planet and our teeth. After learning about the horrifying amount of plastic in our oceans - 1.5 billion tubes of toothpaste go to landfill or into the ocean each year - Dr Simon Chard and his two co-founders, Dr Rhona Eskander and Dr Adarsh Thanki combined their dentistry experience and created a pioneering product which is zero plastic, zero nasty ingredients and is made in the UK, meaning a greatly reduced carbon footprint.

Simon gives us a sneak preview into his daily routine - it’s one to be inspired by!

What’s your morning ritual?

I’m an early bird so I wake up at 4.45am - drink 1 litre of water and as soon as my feet hit the ground I think of one thing I’m grateful for as a gratitude practice to start the day. I then do 45mins of emails and catch up on whats going on with PÄRLA. I then meditate for 20 minutes and then exercise for 1 hour (usually on my peloton which I’m slightly addicted to!) Then I’m off to work

And your favourite way to wind down?

Having a nice hot bath and a mug of Reishi mushroom tea

When you’re going on holiday, alongside PARLA toothpaste tabs, what handy must-haves would be in your travel washbag?

The three things I love in my travel washbag are my aftershare – Le Labo Santal 33, my Wild natural deodorant and my Rationale moisturiser with SPF

When staying in a hotel, what’s your favourite…

Little touch: The quality of the bedding – I know this is a weird one but I love my sleep so a good bed with super soft sheets makes me very happy!!

Activity: My wife and I love to go for a long walk around the grounds or local area

Dish: I love hotel breakfasts – so probably poached eggs with avocado on sour dough

Self care ritual: Going to the spa is a must

.

You’re saving the world one smile at a time! What are some other eco-friendly brands do you respect on a similar mission?

I’ve already mentioned Wild deodorant which I’m a big fan of. Other brands I really like are Neat for cleaning products and Pangaia for sustainable clothing done incredibly well.

Can you share any personal tips on plastic-free living?

Just start – our ethos at PÄRLA is #onesmallchange – because if everyone just made tiny changes to the way they shop, live, eat, travel etc then we could really make massive changes for the planet. No one is perfect and we could all improve but we all need to try.

We’re very excited to have introduced PÄRLA toothpaste tabs to the Thyme bedrooms and our shop, making it even more accessible for our guests to make one small change!

Camilla Hibbert and Dr Simon Chard will be delving into the plastic crisis, how PÄRLA and Thyme strive to solve the issue and will share insights on sustainability in hospitality, wellness and what small changes each of us can make in our daily lives on Instagram IGTV, Wednesday at 7pm BST.
