Citrus Twist Martini

This cocktail is designed for those who love their gin martini . It is classic and sharp, but with a bright, summery, lemony twist.

The star of this recipe is a beautiful homemade limoncello that we make for the bars at Thyme. Its easy to make and is sure to impress your guests!

For the gin, we recommend a citrus forward gin like Tanqueray, Salcombe or Plymouth and for the vermouth we recommend Dolin Blanc for it's citrus, herbal and white pepper notes but Noilly Prat could be an alternative option.

Ingredients

For the homemade Limoncello

9 Unwaxed lemons

700ml Vodka

675ml Water

325g Caster sugar

For the Cocktail

60ml Gin

10ml Dry vermouth

5ml Limoncello

Garnish: Lemon peel

Notes: Dry, citrus, Spirituous

Method For the homemade Limoncello

  1. Remove the peel from the lemons in long strips with a peeler avoiding the pith - reserve the lemons for another use. Place the lemon peels in a crystal jar and pour over the vodka. Macerate for at least four days at room temperature.

  2. In a large saucepan, stir the water and sugar over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. It takes about 5 minutes and once dissolved, leave to cool down and place in the fridge. Once chilled, pour over the lemon vodka, stir and let it stand at room temperature overnight.

  3. The next day, strain, discard the peels and re-bottle your homemade limoncello! Keep refrigerated and use up within 1 month.

    Method For the Cocktail

Chill your martini glasses in the fridge. In a mixing glass or a tin shaker, combine the Gin, vermouth and limoncello together over cubed ice. Stir for 15/17 seconds until suitably chilled and diluted. Pour through a strainer in to a chilled martini glass and garnish with a lemon peel.
