A Summer in Garden with Alitex

We are delighted to welcome Alitex to Thyme for a special seasonal residency which celebrates our shared love of gardens and the simple pleasures of growing. Their beautifully crafted glasshouses have become synonymous with productive growing, while our own gardens shape everything we do, from the produce served in our restaurants to the experiences we offer throughout the year.

Alitex's celebrated Mottisfont glasshouse, fresh from this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, now has a new home amongst our productive gardens. Set against the backdrop of our meadows and orchards, it offers a beautiful place to pause and savour the abundance of the season.

Over the coming months, the Alitex glasshouse will become a gathering place within the gardens, hosting a programme of seasonal talks, conversations and experiences led by gardeners, chefs and creative minds. Together, we will explore the story of the tomato, celebrate the extraordinary varieties growing across the estate, and discover how gardens continue to inspire the way we cook and create.

Garden Walk & Lunch,
every Friday morning

Throughout August, you'll also find the tomato celebrated across Thyme, with refreshing tomato spritzes and tonics on our menus, alongside dishes that make the most of the season's harvest.

Every Friday morning during the residency, we invite you to experience the gardens through a guided walk led by our gardening team. Wander through the productive gardens they reach their seasonal peak, before pausing at the Alitex glasshouse to enjoy a tomato spritz or tonic and taste a selection of the remarkable heritage tomatoes growing on the estate, before a delicious seasonal lunch in the Ox Barn.

The Art of Growing Talk,
Friday 25th September

One of the highlights of the residency takes place on Friday 25th September, when we welcome Nelly Hall, Brand Director at Alitex, florist and grower Milli Proust, and Thyme's Head Productive Gardener, Daryll Taylor, for a conversation exploring the relationship between gardens, creativity, design and wellbeing. Hosted by journalist Elizabeth Metcalfe, this promises to be an inspiring afternoon celebrating the enduring connection between people and plants.

The Kitchen Garden Collection by Bertioli

Throughout the summer, the glasshouse will be filled with the colours of the tomato harvest, dressed with pieces from the Bertioli ‘Kitchen Garden’ collection. Inspired by the natural world that surrounds us at Thyme, Bertioli is our sibling brand, created by Caryn Hibbert and rooted in the flora, wildlife and changing seasons of the estate. Its botanical designs and scents can be found throughout Thyme, from our bedrooms to our boutique, and this summer they bring an extra layer of beauty to the greenhouse.
