Join celebrated garden designers Isabel and Julian Bannerman, artist Endellion Lycett Green and Clare Foster, Garden Editor at House & Garden for an evocative, humorous and highly personal conversation on all things nature and art.
Isabel and Julian Bannerman have been described as ‘mavericks in the grand manner, touched by genius’ and ‘the Bonnie and Clyde of garden design’ - they are also a huge source of inspiration to artist Endellion Lycett Green. Julian is an astute art critic, and will share his thoughts on Endellion’s paintings, and why he loves them.
The conversation will take place in the Tithe Barn at Thyme - which is also hosting Endellion’s first solo show in 10 years. Endellion spent much time last summer painting in the water meadows on the estate. In this exhibition, she captures the living tapestry of this special place, which has been a conservation project run by Caryn Hibbert, Founder and Creative Director of Thyme, for the past 20 years.
Following the talk, Isabel will be signing copies of Scent Magic. The book immerses the reader in the scents of the garden through a diary of her gardening year. It combines this with an encyclopedic reference of the best aromatic plants to grow; the imagery in this book also connects and relates to Endellion’s paintings.

Isabel and Julian Bannerman
Isabel and Julian Bannerman have been designing gardens and garden buildings together since 1983. They have won numerous awards, including an RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal.
Their approach to design, while rooted in history and the classical tradition, is fresh, eclectic and surprising. Designers to the highest in the land, they have made gardens for the Prince of Wales at Highgrove, Lord Rothschild at Waddesdon Manor, the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk at Arundel Castle in Sussex, John Paul Getty II at Wormsley in Buckinghamshire, the great walled garden at Houghton, home of the Marquess of Cholmondeley, and they designed the British 9/11 Memorial Garden in New York.

Endellion Lycett Green
Endellion Lycett Green’s career in painting and drawing spans over 25 years. She has shown at P Lefevre Fine Art, Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, Browse & Darby London and is represented by Laura Lopes Gallery. Her work hangs at Chatsworth House, NatWest Art Collection, St Thomas’s Hospital, Arcadia Group and is in numerous significant private collections at home and abroad.
Clare Foster
Clare Foster is the Garden Editor at House & Garden UK, and has been a garden writer for nearly 20 years, having started her career at Gardens Illustrated magazine. Her job involves visiting beautiful gardens, meeting garden designers and researching plants and products. Clare is the author of several garden books of her own, including The Flower Garden, How to Grow Flowers from Seed (2019).
