The newest member of the Cookery School team, Michael Tate has a long career in the food industry. As a young chef the awards rolled in, winning the 2009 Manchester Young Chef of the Year. Working his way through an impressive selection of modern high-end kitchens, he laid the foundation for a creative and innovative career with eight years in the acclaimed restaurants of Manchester’s Harvey Nichols.
Mike then rang the changes by working stages with Paul Ainsworth at Padstow’s No.6; this led to the role of Head Chef for Tariff & Dale in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, then described by The Times as one of the 25 ‘coolest restaurants in the country.’ Under Mike’s tenure the restaurant was noteworthy for their use of sourdoughs; fresh, seasonal and local products. So with a move south in 2016 it is not surprising that with sights set on a rural location Thyme would offer exactly what he was looking for. Unassuming, a wry wit and a deep knowledge of food, Mike’s passion brings his classes alive and we are thrilled he has joined the team. Not to mention his expertise in the pastry section, his desserts are becoming the stuff of legend!
