Meera Sodha was born in Lincolnshire to Ugandan Indian parents. Cooking is a huge part of her heritage and a love for her ancestors’ food and desire to keep their food traditions alive led her to journey back to her mother’s kitchen to capture the recipes from her childhood.
Family recipes and the stories that came with them were the inspiration for her first cookbook, Made in India, which was published by Figtree, Penguin in 2014. Made in India was a Top 10 best seller and named cookbook of the year by The Times and the Financial Times. Her second book, Fresh India, a celebration of India’s love of vegetables, followed in 2016, which won the Observer Food Monthly Best New Cookbook Award.
Her third book East will be published in August 2019.
Meera Sodha is the Guardian's 'New Vegan' columnist. In 2018 she was given The Guild of Food Writers 'Cookery Writing Award' and named the Fortnum & Mason Cookery Writer of the Year for her work in the Guardian. She cooks, writes and lives in London with her husband and daughter.
